Kitchen renovation process with custom cabinet installation

One of the most common questions we get is "how long will my kitchen renovation take?" While every project is unique, here's a realistic timeline based on our experience renovating kitchens across Vancouver.

Typical Kitchen Renovation Timeline

  • Small Kitchen (under 100 sq ft)3-4 weeks
  • Medium Kitchen (100-200 sq ft)4-6 weeks
  • Large Kitchen (200+ sq ft)6-10 weeks
  • Full Gut + Layout Change8-12 weeks

These timelines assume materials are ordered in advance and there are no major surprises during demolition.

Phase-by-Phase Breakdown

Phase 1: Planning & Design (2-4 weeks)

This happens before any construction begins. We'll finalize the design, select materials, and order cabinets. Custom cabinets can take 4-8 weeks to arrive, so we factor this into the schedule.

Phase 2: Demolition (2-3 days)

Out with the old. We remove existing cabinets, countertops, flooring, and appliances. This is the dustiest phase—we set up containment to protect the rest of your home.

Phase 3: Rough-In Work (3-5 days)

Electrical, plumbing, and any structural changes happen now. If you're moving your sink or adding an island with power, this is when those changes are made.

Phase 4: Installation (2-3 weeks)

The exciting part! Cabinets go in first, followed by countertops (after templating), backsplash, flooring, and finally appliances and fixtures.

Phase 5: Finishing & Cleanup (2-3 days)

Final touches like cabinet hardware, trim, caulking, and a thorough cleanup. We do a walkthrough together to make sure everything meets your expectations.

What Can Cause Delays?

The most common delays we see:

  • Material backorders (especially custom cabinets)
  • Permit delays from the city
  • Discovering hidden issues (water damage, outdated wiring)
  • Change orders mid-project
